Frequently Asked Questions

We are open Monday through Friday from 7AM to 6PM and every other Saturday 8AM to 2PM. We are closed on Sunday. Our Doctors typically see appointments from 8AM to 5PM, with a lunch break from 1PM to 2PM.

Call our office for instructions. At night, on weekends and holidays, when we are closed, we refer our patients to North Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Buford, who can be reached at 678.835.3300, or to BluePearl Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, who can be reached at 770.277.8600.

For our feline guests we require Rabies and the Feline Distemper combo vaccine. For our canine guests we require Rabies, Distemper/Parvo combo, Influenza and Bordetella. All vaccines have an incubation period before they become completely effective so if your pet is not current with the above vaccinations, we require a waiting period, which may include an appointment to get updated several days before your resort reservation. We ensure the highest standards to ensure all our resort guests stay free from spreading or catching a disease.

For the same reason that your own personal doctor requires you to have bloodwork each year, and you have the ability to talk! Your pet cannot tell us how it feels, and bloodwork is probably the best tool that we have to determine if your dog or cat is having issues or not. Importantly, even if your pet is not having issues it is important to have a bloodwork baseline established so that we can make a better diagnosis should your pet ever become ill.

Everything that we require for the procedure is already included in our estimates. We include IV catherization, IV fluids, bloodwork, pain medication and antibiotics, if required. The morning of surgery, the admitting technician will review the treatment plan including costs as well as surgery consents. They will be sure to get a contact number so they can give you an update when your pet is in recovery. Most elective procedures are allowed to discharge the same day.

Rest assured, at Lanier Animal Hospital we always have given - and always will give - the total costs in advance. You will get an estimate for all treatments, from surgery to simple wellness visits. The only time our prices will deviate from our estimates is if complications arise, and even that will be discussed with you in advance.

Definitely. Just like human medicine changes as we get older, your pet's medical needs also change as he or she gets older. Regular checkups should occur every 6 months for pets 7 years and older and are very helpful in catching problems early. The bloodwork panel will include different tests than younger animals would get, and almost all senior pets require some type of dental care on a regular basis. On some pets, we may recommend chest x-rays, abdominal ultrasound, and an EKG.

Here, of course! We offer grooming 6 days a week and can be scheduled as an appointment drop off so your pet doesn’t have to wait for hours to get started. Of course, if your schedule is more convenient to drop off when we open, our grooming guests are walked and given water during their stay and will be ready for pick up before we close for the day. Our full grooms include the standard nail trims, ear cleaning and external anal gland expression but we also offer a rainforest facial at no extra charge. Please call to schedule an appointment!

A thorough physical exam, which includes examining the mouth and teeth for dental disease and tumors, examining the eyes, the ears, the lymph nodes, checking the heart for murmurs, listening for abnormal lung sounds, and palpating the abdomen for lumps. It also includes taking the pet's weight, temperature, heart and respiratory rates, and noting any changes from the last visit. Lastly, we will talk to you about your pet's habits and evaluate the need for certain vaccines. For most cats we recommend the feline distemper vaccine, the feline leukemia vaccine, and the rabies vaccine. We also do bloodwork, screen for internal parasites via a microscopic fecal exam, and for cats considered to be "at risk", an annual Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS (FIV) blood test.
